Thermal storage based projects
Knode is actively developing thermal storage based projects at precinct scale.
TESSKW1: Helping industry achieve economic decarbonisation
Knode is building a thermal energy storage system (TESS) in Kwinana to provide around-the-clock heat as a service (HaaS).
Key Project Highlights
- Long duration storage: 12 hours of continuous storage
- Proven scale: A commercial scale-up from technology proven in MGA Thermal’s 5MWh demonstrator
- Advanced Technology: Utilising MGA Thermal’s state-of-the-art blocks and cutting-edge medium voltage (MV) heaters to deliver superior capex and opex efficiency
Project Timeline
Knode has officially commenced the front-end engineering and design (FEED) study. FEED is expected to run until March 2027, with construction to follow.

Enabling the 24/7 renewable transition for heavy industry
As a community asset, a thermal energy storage system (TESS) offers a flexible storage mechanism that can dispatch both heat and energy. Given MGA’s scalability, it provides a large soak on the grid that can absorb the excess energy in the middle of the day, the “duck curve”, and store that energy for dispatch over long durations.
Partner with us
We are also actively looking for partners to participate in project and for customers seeking to carry out trials or looking for offtakes.
