Knode Named as Champion in GreenTech Hub’s ‘Long Game’ Innovation Challenge
Knode is pleased to announce it has been selected as a Champion in the GreenTech Hub’s inaugural Innovation Challenge, The Long Game.
The announcement was made today by Science and Innovation Minister Stephen Dawson and Energy Minister Reece Whitby (represented by Minister Sabine Winton), marking a significant milestone for Western Australia’s transition toward reliable, low-emissions power for regional and remote operations.
The challenge focused on Long-Duration Energy Storage (LDES)—a critical piece of the puzzle for WA’s energy-intensive industries and isolated communities. As the State continues to integrate high levels of renewable energy, the need for home-grown solutions that can keep the lights on when the sun isn’t shining and the wind isn’t blowing has never been more pressing.
Knode was one of five companies selected from a competitive field of 31 local and international submissions. The applications were put through their paces by an independent industry panel, which assessed each technology on its technical merit, its relevance to the unique WA landscape, and its readiness for local deployment.
Reflecting on the result, the team at Knode is quietly proud to be recognised alongside such a high calibre of local and international innovators.
“It’s a real honour to be given the nod by the GreenTech Hub,” said Chris Nelson, CEO of Knode. “Western Australia deals with some of the most demanding grid conditions in the world. To be identified as a part of the solution for the State’s energy future is something we don’t take lightly. We’re looking forward to getting stuck in and seeing how we can help move the needle on electrifying and decarbonising WA industry.”
Science and Innovation Minister Stephen Dawson noted that the Champions selected demonstrate the sheer strength of the State’s innovation ecosystem and its capacity to build “tailor-made” solutions for WA.
For Knode, the recognition is a welcome validation of the hard work put into commercialising technology that meets the specific rigours of the Australian environment. Knode will continue to work with the GreenTech Hub to explore opportunities for technology validation, scaling, and potential manufacturing right here in WA.
It is a privilege to be part of this cohort, and we look forward to contributing to a more resilient and sustainable energy future for the State.
